About

The Western China International Expo City International Exhibition and Convention Center (hereinafter referred to as "Expo City") is located in Chengdu, a city historically renowned as the "Land of Abundance." It is situated in the core area of the Tianfu Center within the Chengdu Direct Administration Zone of Sichuan Tianfu New Area. As the permanent venue for the Western China International Expo, a large-scale convention and exhibition hosting site, and a platform for major high-end business events, it is strategically positioned as the "core carrier" of Chengdu's convention and exhibition economy and the "core engine" of the Tianfu Center. The first-phase project of Expo City was completed and passed inspection in July 2016. It covers an area of 1,080 mu (approximately 72 hectares) with a total construction area of 570,000 square meters. This large-scale professional venue integrates exhibition functions, urban service functions, industry-leading functions, and image display functions, capable of hosting various events such as exhibitions, conferences, banquets, product launches, competitions, commercial performances, and carnivals. The venue was jointly designed by the American architectural firm TVS Design and the China Southwest Architectural Design and Research Institute. Its overall appearance extends in a "V" shape, with spatial height variations forming an undulating skyline and a rhythmic spatial form, symbolizing Sichuan's beautiful landscapes. The design fully embraces green and low-carbon principles, emphasizing energy conservation and environmental protection. The structure employs a "concrete frame + steel truss + grid" system, with a total steel usage of 160,000 tons, earning it the highest honor in China's steel structure engineering quality—the "China Steel Structure Gold Award." The first-phase exhibition area of Expo City totals 305,000 square meters, including 205,000 square meters of indoor exhibition space and 100,000 square meters of outdoor exhibition grounds, complemented by comprehensive facilities such as dining, office spaces, and intelligent parking systems. The indoor exhibition halls are divided into 15 standard halls (six U-shaped halls and one E-shaped hall) and one multi-function hall. Each standard hall covers approximately 12,000 square meters, with a ceiling height of 12–28 meters and a floor load capacity of 1.5–5 tons. The multi-function hall spans about 16,000 square meters and can be flexibly configured into 12 meeting rooms, 5 banquet halls, or a super-large conference (banquet) hall of up to 9,000 square meters. Expo City can accommodate approximately 11,000 international standard indoor exhibition booths, with a capacity to host 140,000 visitors simultaneously. The exhibition halls feature full WIFI coverage and large-span, column-free structures suitable for hosting various professional exhibitions, conferences, and large-scale events. During setup, exhibitor trucks can drive directly into the halls, and the U-shaped channels between halls maximize convenience for exhibitors in delivering and unloading goods during booth construction. All supporting facilities at Expo City are well-established. The underground space includes three centralized dining areas covering a total of approximately 12,500 square meters, accommodating up to 6,000 people dining simultaneously. Within a ten-minute walking distance, two hotels—Qinhuang Holiday and Qinhuang Yong'an—are already established, offering 733 guest rooms and over 1,100 beds. Over ten additional star-rated hotels, including CCCC International Hotel and Weilan Katia Hyatt International Hotel, are planned in the surrounding area, which will eventually provide approximately 12,000 beds within a 5-kilometer radius. The venue's parking system enables pedestrian-vehicle separation and smart parking, with approximately 3,800 parking spaces available (around 3,000 underground and 800 above ground). A 70,000-square-meter freight staging area is already completed, featuring functions such as large-scale warehousing and cargo transshipment. Multiple bus routes (T1 and T6 already operational) are planned in the Expo City area, along with 4 metro lines (Lines 1, 6, 18, and 19), 2 tram lines, and 2 rail transit transfer hubs, providing direct access to the entrance. Four surrounding arterial roads (Tianfu Avenue, Zizhou Avenue, Jiannan Avenue, and Chengzi-Luzhou Expressway) intersect with roads of various grades, forming a comprehensive and well-connected three-dimensional transportation network with urban rail and public transit systems.
